Effort to criminalize ‘revenge porn’ continues in Maryland

BALTIMORE –
It wasn’t easy but Annmarie Chiarini is moving forward.
 
She became a victim of revenge porn in 2010 and again a year later.
 
“In 2011 at my lowest, I attempted suicide,” Chiarini said. “And at that point I realized, I wanted to change this. I didn’t want this not only for myself but for everyone else. My case is closed, my perpetrator got away with it, it’s over.”
But it was not over for many other victims of cyber sexual harassment and that is who Chiarini was thinking about when she started her journey. 
 
She researched, asked questions, wrote about and told her story to as many people as she could. Now, a bill has been drafted with the help of Del. Jon Cardin and University of Maryland Law Professor, Danielle Citron.
